NLP Psychotherapy
Neuro Linguistic Psychotherapy (NLPt) is a specialised form of Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP). The general idea is that we all work from and react to the world as we construct it from our experiences, rather than directly from the ‘real world’. Each person builds a unique model or map of the world.
NLP is also a way of exploring ‘how’ people think, identifying success and then applying these successful actions or beliefs in ways which work. Using this form of ‘modelling’ change can be quite quick. So, for example, as most phobias are learned in a single event, they can be unlearned too in a single event.
In NLP therapy you are helped to identify your desired states and goals, your outcomes. This often involves experimenting with changing any beliefs that limit you, identifying new beliefs, and / or gaining insights into patterns of your behaviours, so that you end up with more choices.
The emphasis in NLP Psychotherapy is on how you create how you are today from experiences past and present, as well as your ideas about your future. While your personal history is relevant, it is the meaning that you attach to it that matters.
NLP Psychotherapists pay close attention to the words which clients use, their body language, and behaviours. An important aspect of the initial sessions is defining how you will know that you have made the changes that you are seeking to make. As NLP is outcome-focused, regular reviews form part of the therapy process.
While NLP Psychotherapy is, typically, short-term, the number of sessions required depends on the issues a client wants to address and how complex these are. At the initial free discussion you will get an indication of how many sessions may be needed for you to achieve your outcomes and goals.
