Case Study 3: Travel Phobia after a Road Traffic Accident – 6 sessions
A woman in her early sixties was referred. She had been involved in a road traffic accident (RTA) about six months earlier, was now an anxious passenger, and ‘hated’ driving to work as the location of the accident was close to home. At the first session she reported the typical symptoms: disturbed sleep, fluctuating moods and less confidence in general. Even though the accident was caused by another driver, she felt guilty – she had left a little later than usual that day in order to watch something on TV.
After the third EMDR session the client said that the accident was now ‘just a memory’ and she was able to drive herself to the next couple of appointments. At the final meeting tailored hypnosis was recorded to increase her confidence as a driver and she just had ‘little memories’ of that accident.
