Case Study 2: Eczema and Depression – 7 sessions
A young man in his 30s contacted me. Having just started a new job and with some significant changes in his personal life, he was lying awake at night, mentally checking what he had done at work. He had been clear from eczema for a long time, but it had returned with a vengeance. He had been hospitalised and his GP had also diagnosed depression.
In the next five sessions I used a combination of hypnosis, EMDR and a NLP process called Time-Line Therapy to target memories of important events which happened at secondary school and in his family. These events had led him to believe ‘I am insignificant’.
We also did some goal-setting and planning to help him build a social life. In one of the EMDR sessions he experienced an enormous shift in energy. At the final session, four months later, he still had a small spot of eczema, but he felt able to deal with his depression: he could give himself helpful, supportive messages and he now fully believed ‘I’m OK as I am’.
