Case Study 1: Fear of Flying – 2 sessions
This young woman had flown regularly from Manchester back to Europe to see her family. Five months earlier she’d had a bad flight home and had felt apprehensive for two weeks about the flight back to the UK. Since coming home she had also experienced some panic attacks in the tram, when she felt trapped.
With a flight booked four weeks later, she was keen to sort this out. Questionnaires showed a mild level of anxiety and also that she was still badly affected by her experiences of the two flights. A process called fast phobia cure was used to reduce the emotional impact.
At the second session she told me that she hadn’t thought about the two flights at all, and that she had also been sleeping well. I taught her self-hypnosis and did a tailored hypnosis session to prepare her for the flight.
